Fishing Reports

11/8/09 Deckers, CO - Saw a lot of fish and the water was very clear. There was abundant bug activity on surface. Both midges and baetis were coming off and fish were taking flies on top. Fish were suspended in column and taking emergers. Lots of small fish because of the recent stocking effort in the area. We were able to spot some healthy looking fish too. The South Platte was looking good.

3/28/10 Silt, CO - We floated from Silt to Rifle on the Colorado River. The water was a little off-color and was flowing at about 1,300cfs. Not a high flow and not a low flow either. The day had a very prolific hatch of Baetis and Midges. Tiny sailboats were everywhere on the water. Most of the fish were picked up with a flash-back pheasant tail. And the occasional fish took a Zebra Midge. It was a bright and sunny "Blue Bird" day.

4/11/10 Shawnee, CO - Worked up at a private ranch on the North Fork of the South Platte River. The water was flowing at a paltry 50cfs or slightly below. Typical North Fork; there were no hatches to speak of but that only makes the fish more aggressive. They were hitting any attractor pattern and size really didn't seem to matter much. There was a lot of iron in the water which gave it a red tint. The weather was fantastic and we were into some real big Rainbow Trout.

4/18/10 Lake George, CO - We fished below Lake George and ElevenMile Canyon on the South Platte. The fishing was very good. The water was dirty and flowing at about 180cfs. I worked a piece of water that I had never been to before. The fish were hitting San Juan Worms (of course) and midges. I did not see a lot of BWO which surprised me. I enjoyed myself so much, I think I'm going to head back there next weekend.

5/8/10 Kremmling, CO - Floated from Pumphouse down to Rancho Del Rio on the Kodiak Water Master. It was a fantastic day. There were no Salmonflies yet but they are on their way. I picked up some really nice fish on 20 inchers and some on BH flashback PTs. The wind came up and made the last few hours very tough. The flow was only at 450cfs whereas the median flow for this time of year would have been around 1,200cfs. Yarmony rapids were exciting with the lower flow and a strong wind. The runoff had not started yet.

5/16/10 Basalt, CO - Floated from Basalt down to Catherine's Bridge on the Roaring Fork River. The fish were very aggressive and hitting the larger stonefly imitations like the Pat's Rubber Legs (size 8) and the Half-Back Stonefly. We were also catching some on a size 16 Prince Nymph. The water was flowing at 400cfs and the historical flow is closer to 1,200cfs. The weather was nice and sunny and the runoff had still not fully started yet.

5/22/10 Basalt, CO - I fished the Frying Pan River. The river was flowing at 120cfs where the median flow for this time of year is around 220cfs. I was having good luck on small midges and flashback pheasant tails. The weather was cooler and windy. The water clarity was gin clear and there were lots of visible fish.
